Many authors and researchers have proposed the idea of “Alien-Paleocontact” – that advanced extraterrestrial beings, a.k.a Anunnaki, visited Earth in our ancient past From Planet X/Nibiru. But few have developed a theory as broad and captivating as that of Zecharia Sitchin, author of the renowned Earth Chronicles series.
Translated into 14 languages, the seven-volume series covers a variety of topics, woven around an advanced race of human extraterrestrials known as the Anunnaki (those who came from heaven to earth in Sumer mythology).
Zecharia Sitchin’s Core Theory on Anunnaki and Planet X/Nibiru
According to Sitchin’s interpretations of ancient Sumerian clay tablets, an advanced race of human extraterrestrials known as the Anunnaki came to Earth from a distant, undiscovered planet. This planet, which Sitchin claims the Sumerians called Nibiru, has a 3,600-year elliptical orbit around our Sun.
The Anunnaki Origin
Sitchin’s theories draw from a wide range of sources – Sumerian and Babylonian mythology, archeology, the Bible, as well as modern discoveries in fields like astronomy, geology, linguistics, bioengineering, and space technology.
He argues that the Anunnaki were the “gods” described in ancient texts, highly evolved humans who came from the mysterious Planet X or Nibiru.
In his first book, The 12th Planet, published in 1976, Zecharia Sitchin laid out his core hypothesis about the Anunnaki’s existence. As he continued his research in later volumes like The Stairway to Heaven and Genesis Revisited, Sitchin found more evidence from ancient texts that seemed to corroborate his theories.
But what’s truly fascinating is how Sitchin claimed that modern scientific discoveries were catching up with the ancient knowledge described in the Sumerian texts. From the discovery of mitochondrial Eve, to genetic advances enabling test-tube babies, to NASA’s images of Uranus and Neptune matching Sumerian descriptions – Sitchin saw a pattern of new findings aligning with ancient lore.
The Planet X or Planet Nibiru
Of course, Sitchin’s theories about the existence of Planet X/Nibiru have been hotly debated, with some scientists dismissing the notion entirely. Yet Sitchin remained adamant, citing intriguing statements from an astronomer at the U.S. Naval Observatory who seemed to tacitly acknowledge the possibility of such a planet.
Whether you find Sitchin’s theories plausible or not, his work has undoubtedly sparked imaginations and initiated fascinating discussions about our origins and ancient connections to advanced beings from elsewhere in the cosmos. The Earth Chronicles series remains a thought-provoking exploration of these profound mysteries.
In this article, we reproduce the interview conducted by columnist J. Antonio Huneeus of FATE magazine when he met with Sitchin to discuss his theories:
Huneeus: In your recent book, Genesis Revisited, you seek to bridge the gap between ancient Sumerian records and modern scientific discoveries. Can you describe your theories?
Sitchin: Let me start by telling you how I came to write the book. Since 1976, I have followed discoveries in a variety of scientific fields, including astronomy and biology. Recent advances in DNA research have established that there was an Eve who lived about 250 to 270 thousand years ago, a first mother from which all modern human beings come, regardless of their racial heritage (in 1987, scientists from the universities of California and Michigan announced that all human beings descended from a single mitochondrial Eve; who lived in Africa).
Then came the news a few years later that there was also a real Adam. Eventually, genetic advances made test tube babies possible, mixing the male sperm with the female egg and reimplanting it.
When I heard this news, I told my family and friends that it corroborated not only the biblical story of Adam and Eve, which comes from Sumerian stories, but also corroborated Sumerian knowledge of the methods used to create Eve.
Every time he heard about another scientific discovery that corroborated Sumerian essays, he told people: “But the Sumerians had already said it.”
Today, the scientist accepts the theories regarding plate tectonics. Some articles and studies show that, at the same time, all the continents of the Earth were on one side of the planet. What the stories don’t explore is the question, if all the continents were on one side, what was on the other?
The other side has been described as a huge gap, matching the Sumerian story of how the Earth developed. The Sumerians said that the Earth was actually half of a planet called Tiamat, which split apart during a collision with Nibiru/Marduk (or Planet X).
As Voyager 2 traveled past Jupiter and Saturn and approached Uranus, NASA broadcast live from the spacecraft. Sitting at home you could see, electronic piece by electronic piece, how the image of Uranus was developing. Finally, you could see a beautiful, blue-green planet. I literally jumped out of my seat and screamed, “But that’s exactly how the Sumerians described it, as a blue-green watery planet!”
So I wrote an article for OMNI, predicting what would be found on Neptune about seven or eight months later. In accordance with Sumerian lore that describes Neptune and Uranus as twin blue-green planets, I predicted that Neptune would be brother to Uranus in many ways. OMNI did not publish the article until my prediction proved true. When they looked at the images of Neptune, sent by Voyager, they told readers that my article had been presented before the images of Neptune and admitted that they sat on it.
I told my editor at Avon that he was eager to let other people know that every day we saw new corroboration of ancient knowledge. He suggested that he write a book. That inspired me to write Genesis Revisited, with its subtitle: Is Modern Science Catching Up With Ancient Knowledge?
The answer to that question, of course, is yes. Each chapter deals with topics such as the planets, how the Sumerians described the creation of the Earth and the Moon and the existence of Eve and her story.
The interesting point is not that all new discoveries, in any field, corroborate Sumerian knowledge, but that nothing that has been discovered contradicts the Sumerian records.
Huneeus: I am sure you are familiar with recent scientific articles, in mainstream publications, indicating that there is no such Planet of the Sun).
Sitchin: The notion that there is no Planet X comes from the work of Dr. Myles Standish of JPL (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory). In 1993 he said: “it is no longer necessary to hypothesize the existence of a tenth planet in the Solar System.”
Traditionally, scientists have said that if there was Planet X, we would have found it by now. I think someone also said that if there were aliens, we would have met them by now. So, if we have not met ETs, they do not exist, and if we do not find Planet X, it does not exist either.
There is a story about a thief who was brought to court, and two witnesses gave evidence that they saw him steal. The judge turned to him and said: “What do you have to say? “We just heard from two witnesses who say they saw him steal.” The thief responded, “Your honor, two people may have seen me steal, but I can bring you hundreds who didn’t see me steal.” That is the same kind of evidence used to disprove the existence of the Planet “I just think it would be useless to look for it.”
Interest in Planet of Space cooperation. Suddenly, Gorbachev stated his objection to the “Star Wars” project.
As you know, the “Star Wars” program no longer exists, although its budget was increased (under the name “ballistic missile defense program”). It’s close to $4.5 billion (USD) a year, officially – unofficially who knows! So I ask you, against whom is this defense planned?
Huneeus: The most recent public relations statement states that it is intended for use against asteroids.
Sitchin: I don’t buy it. For the “Are We Alone?” video, I interviewed Dr. Robert S. Harrington, supervising astronomer at the United States Naval Observatory, which is part of the Department of Defense – this is not a university project we are talking about. I talked to him for almost two hours on camera, and neither the producer nor I could believe what we heard.
He used our meeting as an example to explain his belief about Planet X: “If you ask me if there is a person named Zecharia Sitchin, for example, I can’t tell you for sure that he exists. But if there is such a person, I would say that he probably has gray hair, wears glasses, and lives in New York.”
In effect, Harrington said, “I don’t know if such a person exists,” yet he still proceeds to describe me in perfect detail. Regarding Planet officially. He said, “It’s like you said on “The 12th Planet.” The planet comes at a 30-degree angle to the ecliptic. In Biblical times it would come in Sagittarius, the way you say, and now it will come from Libra, where we are looking.”
